Why 30 Days?
There are a few reasons...and I laid them all out in this post about 30 Days to Form a Habit?.
What challenges have you completed?
Ummm, as of the time you're reading this...none. I'll be starting my first one on 1 December 2011 when I take on Challenge #1 (1 December - 30 December): 30 Day Vegan Challenge.
Where do you get ideas for challenges?
All over--books, TV shows, magazines, the internet, friends...I feel like everywhere I turn there are 30 Day Plans (or 21 Day Plans or 60 Day Plans or something) and I'm adjusting them to fit my interests and needs. I actually have about fifteen ideas that I'm considering (Ideas for Challenges Part 1, Ideas for Challenges Part 2, Ideas for Challenges Part 3), but if you have an idea for a challenge, please send me an e-mail at or leave me a comment!
What are your requirements for a challenge?
Here's the short version:
- I want the challenge to actually be a goal of mine or something I'm considering adding to my life--I'm not doing a challenge just for the sake of doing a challenge.
- It has to actually be a challenge--as much as I'd like to challenge myself to 30 Days of massages and see how I feel afterwards, that's not really a challenge (except to my wallet).
- All challenges should lead to a positive outcome. As much as I enjoy Morgan Spurlock (more about him in another post), I will never have a challenge where I try to Supersize Me (in fact, most of my challenges will be working on Minimizing Me).
- It's a 30 Day Challenge--not a three times a week or four times a month challenge. (Although I might try some with an ultimate 30 Day goal--like read 10 books in 30 days or something like that...)
What are your plans for future challenges?
At this point, here is what's specifically planned:
- Challenge #1 (1 December - 30 December): 30 Day Vegan Challenge
- Challenge #2 (1 January - 30 January): 30 Days of Giving
How do you make it through a 30 Day Challenge?
Again, there's a short version listed below and a longer version that will (hopefully) be coming soon.
- I believe in myself and make myself a priority. Although it's sometimes difficult to truly believe and put into action...I do know that I can do whatever I put my mind to and I know it's worth it. A wise person once told me that it's not about self-discipline/will-power, it's about integrity. And I will never give up on my integrity.
- I rely on my friends and family. They encourage me, they inspire to always try to improve myself, and they also believe in me...I'm so grateful.
- I plan ahead. Ask anyone who knows me and they'll describe me as a planner, I ALWAYS have a plan (what can I say, I'm a nerd?). I always plan out my challenge ahead of time.
- I take advantage of all my resources--books, recipes, websites, magazines, experts, and even TV shows and documentaries. You'd be surprised at what's out there!
